Tū Mai Taonga
The Predator Free Aotea/Great Barrier Island project that aims to eradicate rats and feral cats from 24,000 ha.
This Predator Free 2050 project is very close to the heart for Ethos directors Scott and Emma as they have been involved in the challenge to eradicate Aotea/Great Barrier Island of ship rats and feral cats for almost two decades now.
When Tū Mai Taonga was finally designated as an official Predator Free 2050 project it was only natural then that Ethos Environmental would be tasked with the responsibility of the data management system. Using every tool in our kit, we have put together the ultimate GIS to record, analyse and report on the control of the rodents and feral cats across the 28,500 hectare guardian of the Hauraki Gulf and we will keep throwing everything at it until we succeed.
The only downside of this is that if we are successful, our other treasured project - Te Korowai o Waiheke - will lose its title as the largest permanently populated island to be eradicated!
